Blinds: A complete guide

Discover the best styles, from Roman blinds to Perfect Fit binds. Explore our guide and find the perfect made-to-measure blind for your home.

Adding a blind behind an existing curtain is a simple way to create a sense of layering and luxury. Blinds can also help to filter natural light and provide additional privacy during the day.

For bedrooms, blackout blinds are a popular choice, while interlined blinds can provide an extra layer of insulation in colder rooms. Both options can also help protect your curtains and furnishings from the damaging effects of sunlight.

All our blinds are made to comply with current child safety standards, which are designed to reduce the risk of children becoming accidentally trapped or entangled in blind cords and chains. This includes using appropriate safety devices and ensuring chains are kept at a safe distance from young children.

To help you choose, our guide explains the features and benefits of different blinds. As a result, you can confidently find the perfect design to suit both your home and your lifestyle.

Roman Blinds

A Roman blind is a timeless window dressing that combines the luxurious, soft appearance of a curtain with the practical, space-saving benefits of a blind. Elegant and versatile, it can add warmth, texture and sophistication to both traditional and contemporary interiors. They generally require less fabric than curtains, so they can also be a cost-effective option.

When raised, the fabric folds into neat, uniform pleats or soft cascading folds. When lowered, it sits flat against the window, beautifully showcasing the colour, texture and pattern of your chosen fabric. For an added touch of elegance, the top fold can be tailored into a structured pelmet.

Our Roman blinds are fitted onto a simple, streamlined metal head-rail with a convenient side-winding pull chain. The chain can be positioned on either the left or right-hand side of the blind and is available in either chrome or antique brass finish.

Choose from a range of lining options to suit your needs. An unlined blind will soften and filter the light without blocking it completely, while a bonded blackout lining provides excellent light control and is ideal for bedrooms. Interlining adds an extra layer of insulation, helping to retain heat and improve energy efficiency.

Roman blinds can be fitted inside the window recess for a clean, streamlined look. They can also be paired with existing curtains, sitting neatly behind them to create a luxurious layered effect while helping to regulate temperature.

Alternatively, a Roman blind can be fitted outside the recess to soften the appearance of the window and create a beautifully framed finish. This is also a great option for maximising light and making the window feel larger and more generous.

Roller Blinds

Roller blinds are a simple, yet versatile choice for any room. Their clean, minimalist design works beautifully in both traditional and contemporary interiors, while offering an easy way to control light and privacy.

Made from a single piece of fabric that rolls neatly around a tube, roller blinds can be raised to maximise natural light or lowered when you need privacy and shade. They are available in a range of fabrics, from translucent options that gently filter daylight while maintaining privacy, to blackout fabrics designed to minimise light and create a darker environment for sleeping. If you have a particular fabric in mind, we can also make your roller blind using your chosen design, creating a truly bespoke finish.

The blind can be fitted within the window recess, creating a neat and streamlined finish. As the fabric sits inside the recess, however, a small amount of light may be visible around the edges. The blind can alternatively be fitted to the wall or window frame, covering the recess and extending beyond the window opening. This can provide better light control and is particularly effective when using blackout fabric.

A ‘standard’ roll positions the fabric closest to the window, creating a clean finish and helping to minimise light gaps. A ‘reverse’ roll brings the fabric forward over the front of the tube. This can conceal the roller mechanism and is useful where window handles or other obstructions need to be avoided.

All our roller blinds are made to measure for your individual window and are simple and convenient to operate. For added comfort and convenience, motorised options are also available.

Venetian Blinds

Venetian blinds offer a classic yet contemporary approach to window dressing, combining clean lines with excellent control over light and privacy. Made with horizontal slats, they can be tilted to adjust the amount of light entering the room, or raised completely to leave the window unobstructed.

Available in a range of materials, colours and finishes, Venetian blinds can be tailored to complement almost any interior. Real wood brings warmth, natural texture and a sense of luxury, making it particularly suited to living rooms and bedrooms. Aluminium offers a sleek, modern finish that is lightweight, durable and easy to maintain, while faux wood provides the appearance of real timber with greater resistance to moisture, making it a practical choice for kitchens and bathrooms.

Venetian blinds are easy to operate and give you precise control over privacy and daylight throughout the day. They can be adjusted to filter sunlight while still allowing natural light into the room, or raised fully when you want a clear view. They cannot provide complete blackout, so if you require a darker room, particularly in a bedroom, a blackout roller or Roman blind may be a better choice.

With their versatile styling and practical functionality, our made-to-measure Venetian blinds are an excellent choice for both homes and workspaces.

Vertical Blinds

Vertical blinds are a practical and versatile window dressing, particularly well suited to larger windows, patio doors and sliding glass doors. Their clean, contemporary design makes them equally at home in both residential and work spaces.

Made up of individual vertical slats, or louvres, the blinds can be tilted to control the amount of natural light entering the room while maintaining privacy. They can also be drawn fully to one side, leaving the window or doorway completely unobstructed.

Vertical blinds are an excellent solution for unusually shaped or angled windows, as the louvres can be made to accommodate diagonal shapes and awkward spaces. All our vertical blinds are made to measure and are available in a wide range of colours and finishes.

Fabric louvres offer a softer, more elegant appearance and are available in fabrics that gently filter daylight through to blackout options, making them suitable for bedrooms and rooms where greater light control is required.

For kitchens and bathrooms, PVC and vinyl louvres provide a practical alternative. They are durable, moisture-resistant and easy to wipe clean.

For added peace of mind, modern child- and pet-safe control options are available, including a simple cordless wand for opening, closing and tilting the louvres.

With their flexibility, easy operation and ability to cover large areas, vertical blinds remain a practical and stylish choice for a wide range of windows and doors

Perfect Fit Blinds

Perfect Fit blinds are a clever, made-to-measure solution for windows and doors where a conventional blind may not be practical. Designed to sit neatly within the window frame, they require no drilling or screws and are secured using a discreet frame that locks into the existing rubber glazing seal.

The surrounding frame gives the blind a neat, encapsulated appearance while providing additional support around the edges. As it sits close to the glass, the blind moves with the window or door, making Perfect Fit blinds particularly well suited to uPVC windows, French doors, bi-fold doors, conservatories and tilt-and-turn windows.

Perfect Fit blinds are available in a range of styles and fabrics, including roller blinds. Perfect Fit roller blinds combine the soft, decorative qualities of fabric with a compact and practical design. Blackout and thermal fabrics are also available, making them a great choice for bedrooms and living spaces where privacy, light control and insulation are important.

The no-drill fitting leaves your window frames untouched, while the close-fitting design creates a clean, streamlined finish. With a wide choice of fabrics and colours, Perfect Fit blinds offer a practical and stylish solution for modern homes.

INTU Blinds

INTU blinds are a sleek, integrated window dressing designed to sit neatly within the existing window frame. Offering a clean, minimalist appearance, they provide excellent privacy and light control without the need for drilling or screws.

Unlike Perfect Fit blinds, INTU blinds do not have a surrounding outer frame. Instead, they use a slim top and bottom rail with discreet side channels, allowing the blind to sit neatly within the glazing bead while leaving more of the window visible. This creates a lightweight, unobtrusive finish that works particularly well with modern windows and doors.

The innovative fitting system clips securely into the existing window bead, leaving the frame untouched. Because the blind sits close to the glass, it moves with the window or door when opened, making INTU blinds particularly suitable for French doors, bi-fold doors and tilt-and-turn windows.

INTU blinds are completely cordless, providing a clean appearance and helping to create a safer environment for children and pets. The close-fitting design also keeps the blind securely in position, preventing it from swinging when doors or windows are opened.

Available in a range of styles, colours and finishes, INTU blinds offer a discreet, contemporary solution for controlling light and privacy while maintaining the clean lines of your windows and doors.
